All would-be customers of Lawrence Chard, trading as Chards in Blackpool (and Tax Free Gold, Gold Sovereigns, 24 Carat and Eurocoins on the Internet) should urgently be aware of the following facts:
- Lawrence Chard has been suspended from Ebay because of massive negative feedback and failure to provide real contact details for clients;
- Lawrence Chard has been expelled from the British Numismatic Trade Association (the umbrella body representing coin dealers) for “bringing that body into disrepute.”
- Lawrence Chard was censured by the UK Internet Domain Registration Authority, Nominet UK, for a series of “abusive registrations” where domains were registered with the express intention of impersonating other institutions. The most important attempted Chard impersonation was of the Royal Mint, and that body was forced to take legal action against Chard.
- Lawrence Chard is notorious for advertising items for sale which he does not have in stock, and then making customers wait months while he attempts to find the items which he has “sold” but did not have. Many complaints on Ebay testify to this fact.
- Lawrence Chard’s dubious business dealings and questionable ethics have caused a number of dissatisfied customers to start a thread on the monmeysupermarket.com website listing their disastrous interactions with Chards.

We believe that he is incorrect in doing so. Only metals held by a member of the terminal market may be held with out VAT; as Chard is not a member of the terminal market for silver (in this case the London Bullion Market Association) he is obliged to charge VAT.
Furthermore, the fact that he is not charging VAT, suggests that he is not paying VAT and therefore sending incorrect returns to HMRC.

ReplyDeleteMr Chard advertises for lots of 25 and 50 coins , so the true test would be, as per his website, turn up to his place with the cash in hand, and what ever lot you want to buy , you will find he does not have it in stock it will be sold out, the early 1820s coins on his web page for under 300 £ is a lie ,and the article he has written about BNTA , SHOULD MAKE YOU GIGGGLE , which just show, how low he will stoop

ReplyDeleteI could not agree more - this idiot Lawrence Chard should be sectioned. He is an absolute disgrace and I am so pleased that he is being exposed for what he is - a liar, a cheat, a hypocrite and a basically unsavoury excuse for a human being. The fact that he hasn’t had a very serious accident over the last year or so just shows how fortunate he is that the people he has so maligned libelled and slandered are actually very nice people. But what goes round comes round so they say - and in any righteous universe he will eventually get what's coming to him. And don't get me started on his mate Lapidary who is another nutter of the first degree. He should share a cell with Chard.
ReplyDeleteLapidery is in the same crook league as lawrence chard , birds of a feather flock together , like 2 peas in a pod, lapidery sits all day long at his pc, and reports all the top sellers listings and sends threatening emails all day long, .. a loser with no work ,with the main aim of getting chards business up, and damaging other seller web pages and ebay accounts , that pig has not died as yet but he too will get what is coming to chard ,, with so many ppl cursing them it is time we all got together and sorted these 2 ppl out , demise would be a good result , i wonder how they sleep at night
ReplyDeletei have contacted chards on numerous times about coins on his website only to be told everytime the prices are 200% above his advertised price and that the coin isnt actually in stock anyway! and sometmes the person on the phone doesnt even understand what you are talking about, and as for LAPIDARY THE BLOKE IS A KNOW IT ALL, WHO POKES HIS BIG NOSE INTO THINGS THAT ARE NOTHING TO DO WITH HIM, THINKS HE KNOWS IT ALL THINKS HE,S CHARLIE BIG SPUDS ON COINS! MY DAD ALWAYS SAID YOU CANT EDUCATE AN IDIOT!!!! IT DOESNT REALLY SUPRISE ME TO FIND OUT LAPIDARY IS STUCK UP CHARD CHAD PIPE!! ReplyDeleteThis has made my day reading this article. I had the misfortune of working for Chard 2 years ago. In my brief 12 month employment I found him to be an unpleasant, arrogant greed orientated, workaholic who had little regard for his customers or employees.
ReplyDeleteI can confirm that some of the business practices outlined in this article are true. Chard would often sell gold at spot prices without having the gold physically available to sell. As he was taking orders in advance, he was effectively taking a gamble with customers money on the gold price not increasing between taking money off people and actually placing an order for the gold. As a result he would often delay ordering gold even further until the gold price dropped enough to minimise any loss. This often resulted in long delays between orders being placed and orders actually being satisfied.
I left my employment after he reneged on my 12 month review which was agreed at the point of my interview. He was prepared to treat his employees with the same disregard as his customers. I made my decision to leave and found alternative employment.
The motto to this story is 'What goes around, comes around' and I for one am happy to see him named and shamed. I hope he dies a sad old man!
